Galina paints mostly in oil, focusing on colour and light as the main purveyors of atmosphere. Living in a small Cotswold village, the subjects which fascinate her most are the small moments of everyday: a panicky school run; Highland cattle wandering past the butcher’s as they head out to Minchinhampton Common; the eerie reflection on a child’s face as she is hypnotized by an iPad game. These moments begin as curiosities, but can turn into full-blown projects, revolving around the wider issues invoked by those initial images.
Galina has been drawing and painting since childhood, first taught by her mother, a professional watercolourist and former art teacher. Since moving to the Cotswolds several years ago she has painted professionally, exhibiting successfully in several Gloucestershire venues including Hobbs House Bakery in Nailsworth, Stroud Subscription Rooms and the Amberley Inn. She regularly takes on private commissions ranging from portraits, pets and cows to houses, food and landscapes. She aims to tailor each commission to the client’s own budget on the premise that artwork can, and should, be accessible to all.
